i find myself doing quite a bit of file transfer between athena and my
msdos box over modem lines. unfortunately, kermit is painfully slow.
when running over a 1200 bps line, kermit only manages about 400 bps
actual data throughput (about 3 kbytes per minute).
i know that there are other file transfer protocols in the public
domain (XMODEM, YMODEM, ZMODEM). these tend to provide somewhat higher
throughputs, although in some cases error detection/correction
suffers. i snarfed a copy of some utilities which handle this type of
file transfer on the athena end from uunet.uu.net (at the suggestion
of somebody out in net.land). i've compiled it and done some limited
testing; it seems to work fine.
might sipb be interested in sticking this pd stuff in the sipb locker
where everybody can get at it and benefit from it?
thanks
