Up to 10% of the time that I start up a major clari newsgroup in rn,
it spends a few *minutes* doing
Skipping unavailable article...................... [hundreds of dots]

Eventually it stops, at which point a little maneuvering shows that
only a handful of real articles were skipped (where "real" means they
had an article number). If I use A[bandon all changes to the newsgroup]
or otherwise reset the initial conditions, the problem will reliably
happen again. It never happens at all outside of clari groups.

Example from just now:

clari.world.europe.eastern: 1-4721,4730,4736,4740-4742,4753,4758,4765,4768,4770-4771,4773-4774,4776,4778-4779,4781-4782,4785-4786,4789

Trying to read this group with the above .newsrc line gives ~500 fake
skips. The first article that comes up is 4725.

I don't know if this is related, but another odd thing happens only
in clari groups. -- Sometimes junking things with a keyword search
gets everything else in the group thrown out too. Using the same
example as above, while on article 4725 I do a /clari.biz/hj:=
It visibly junks half a dozen article, but then has nothing left in
the newsgroup. Yet lots of others can be listed beforehand, restored
using A[bandon] afterward, or otherwise be shown to exist.
