I'm open to suggestions, but I think the alternatives are:
o always require a password be typed in (except when pre-specified via
encrypted_key or key). This is the `default' behavior when it can't
find a password, I believe.
o make it use kerberos passwords. This makes xscreensaver more secure
but is undesireable for other reasons (think `Trojan Horse').
