Greetings SIPB and MIME locker maintainers,
With the advent of Debathena, we've seen a lot of Exmh users run into
problems, as exmh relies on metamail, which was in the MIME locker. The
MIME locker was maintained by "Athena" for a while, but it is now very
bitrotted and lacks sysname directories for anything newer than Athena
8.4.
For a short period, users could use metamail on Ubuntu, however the
package has been pulled from the Ubuntu Universe repository as of Lucid.
IS&T no longer has any interest in maintaining the MIME locker at this
point, and is actively encouraging NMH users to migrate to Pine or
Evolution (for their tty and GUI needs, respectively).
As exmh requires metamail, this raises some questions:
a) Is SIPB still interested in maintaining exmh?
b) If yes, then some sort of metamail installation will be required.
Therefore, is SIPB interested in taking over the MIME locker? Or
installing metamail in the sipb locker somewhere?
We (IS&T) are going to continue encouraging users away from any MH-based
solution, however if we have specific info on the future of exmh, that
would be helpful.
Thanks,
Jon
