   i got that after doing heavy reading and saving in betaxrn. the last thing i
   did was mark about 200 articles "read" and then clicked quit, to goto my
   subscription list. is this a bug?

Yes.  I assume you were doing this on a DECstation?  Can you duplicate
it, i.e., do you know of some set of actions inside betaxrn which will
get it to happen on command?
