the problem is  that there are certain character combinations (such as
'fi') that when compiled   with times will crash the standard  athena
xdvi because  it uses a funky  character substituted in.  If  you use
the sipb xdvi,  it will  be omitted.  

Compiling everything with cmr fixes it, but then people might not like
the looks of things as much as with times (at least for the printouts).
So...  possible alternatives are to keep a cmr compiled version of
everything just for olh (which means more disk usage), convert
everything to cmr (which means ugliness to some eyes), or olh (and
athena?) should use sipb's version of xdvi.

what do  y'all think?
