I've done a little bit more investigation of the problem you had with
fig2dev and the \SetFigFont macro.
It turns out that you need to use the "transfig" program, which will
produce a transfig.tex file, which you then insert into your tex
document with "\input transfig.tex".
See the man page for transfig for more information. If you just want
the transfig.tex file, and not the Makefile that the transfig
produces, then include "-M /dev/null" on your transfig command line.
