I can't make it to tonight's meeting. I'll give you my view of things
to ignore or consider at the meeting :-):
It semes to me that we *want* to use shared libraries, if we can do so
safely. However, we can't do so safely, until one of two sets of
conditions is met:
1. /usr/athena/lib/shared has version numbering in it.
2. The x11r5 locker has version numbering in it, AND the shared
libraries in it are replicated.
Since neither of these is met right now, we cannot "safely" use shared
libraries. Therefore, we should be statically linking everything.
However, we can't do *that* as long as we don't have the disk space.
Therefore, I'd like to see us use the x11r5 shared libraries, which
are less likely to change and screw us over in January, until we can
get more disk space in both copies of the sipb locker. Once that
happens, we should statically link until /usr/athena/lib/shared has
version numbering in it, at which point we should start using that.
If the x11r5 locker ever ends up with version numbering and is
replicated, we should switch to that, since the x11r5 libraries are
more reliable than the x11r4 ones.
