(1) The use of ~/.motd by /mit/sipb/*bin/motd conflicts with my dotfiles
which use ~/.motd for their own purposes. You may want to the change
the name, or I can change what my dotfiles use; I doubt there are that
many people who are using ~/.motd in their dotfiles, but there may be
some. I suspect that ~/.motdrc is less likely to be used by people's
dotfiles.
(2) No matter what you decide to do about (1), methinks the program
should have a bit more robustness to it:
