I was using edsc out of /mit/sipb. The sipb cell went down and I got:
/afs/sipb.mit.edu/user/tytso/src/edsc/edsc.decmips does not exist!
Shouldn't it rely on something in the sipb locker instead?
Well, maybe. You see, discuss development is not really a "sipb
thing" and it is run out of the discuss locker, no the sipb locker.
Since discuss is an NFS locker, Ted decided to keep edsc in his sipb
homedir so that it would not be necessary to have discuss attached to
run it.
However, since the sipb locker contains the emacs discuss library, it
should probably also contain the edsc binary.
