Friends, Romans, Brothers of all ages...
In light of all this controversy over a simple calendar, I
thought I'd throw in my proverbial two cents.
Arright. The idea of sending in glossy pictures of "female,
although males are okay too" brothers for a calendar as a rushing tool
or publicity stunt is pretty half-baked at best, although the brothers
at Auburn have to be given a few points for trying to come up with new
and interesting rush ideas.
Alas, the motto does read "Leadership and Friendship through
Service", _not_ "Leadership and Friendship through Lycra".
However, the idea _could_ be modified in such a way as to
actually work, and be not-quite-so blatantly aimed at a certain target
audience. Supposing these brothers revamp the idea to call for
pictures, but change the subject matter to shots of brothers at
projects, picnics, or simple group shots on campus. Most chapters
would have one or two fun pictures like this lying around, or be
willing to make one for such a project. That way, there would be a
fun, more realistic representation of chapters, both co-ed and non
co-ed, in the same calendar format.
It's fun, non-offensive, and besides, it's almost fall. Swimsuits
are a big fashion faux-pas after Labor Day, you know.
