For those of you wondering about the schools affected by the flooding, esp.
Greg D. who asked about the U of Iowa:
As a tried and true Hawkeye from the U of Iowa, I can assure you that Iowa
City is safe from the Mississippi, being about 60 miles west of the river.
However, the Iowa River which run through the heart of campus is no doubt
out of its banks, and I'm sure may have flooded out the softball complex
and may even be threatening the Memorial Union, Main Library and English
and Philosophy Building. (Hey Omicron - report?)
St. Ambrose College in Davenport may well be wet (Alpha Alpha Theta).
Cornell College (Omega Xi) should be dry, as it's up on a hill.
Same goes for Loras (Lambda Kappa) and Univ of Dubuque, which are both
well above the Mississippi in Dubuque, Iowa. Northern Iowa (Beta Epsilon)
and Luther College (Mu Theta) should be okay. (Whups - UD is Pi Beta chapter)
The ISU campus may be okay, but Ames, Iowa is very wet (I-35 is closed),
so the Xi Petitioning Group may be sandbagging. Simpson College (Eta Beta)
in Indianola may be damp, and Drake Univ (Omega) in Des Moines should be
fairly dry.
That's the Iowa report - - I don't know about Augustana in the Illinois side
of the Quad Cities, or about any others east or south of there. Winona, MN,
home of St. Mary's College (Sigma Theta) is on the Mississippi, but I don't
know how the school is doing (except that the Dean of Students sounded calm
when I talked to her recently).
Thanks to all those who've expressed concern - I'll post more details if and
when they're available.
