Cross your fingers, rub your rabbits foot, wave to the center fielder before
you start pitching for the inning, and jump over the foul line sideways on
the way back to the dugout.......
I've uploaded new copies of the chapter lists to the FTP site, and I think
{gasp} I might have done it right this time. Not only did i make sure to use
ASCII file transfers all the way along, but the file sizes on the FTP site and
my PC are relatively close (within 1k on an 80k file), which is better than my
past two attempts.
This time the files are APO-L2.BYC, APO-L2.BYS, and APO-L2.BYU (same naming
scheme as before). These should transfer correctly as TEXT, as I uploaded them
and PUT them as Text (ASCII) files.
I also put a file LISTS.ZIP up (binary upload/binary PUT) which is a PKZIP
2.04g file containing all 3 files. You will need the PKZIP 2.04g (or better)
or compatible unzip program (portable unzip V 5.?, I think will work). Keep
in mind, that this zip file was created from MS DOS Text files on a PC. You
may run into CR-LF problems on other systems.
As for the format of the files. There is a 75 line instrduction at the
top of the file, with line length less than 80 characters. The actuall
list has a minimum of 108 characters, maximum of 125 characters on each
line, broken down as:
Col
1- 3 Chapter Number
4 Blank Space
5- 28 Greek Name (3 7 character fields, each followed by a space)
29- 69 School Name
70- 87 City
88- 89 State (US Postal 2 letter abbeviation)
90 Blank Space
91 Status (A for Active; P for Petitioning, etc... explained in header)
92 Blank Space
93- 94 Region
95 Blank Space
96- 97 Section
98 Blank Space
99-108 Chartering Date (mm/dd/yyyy format)
109 Blank Space
110-113 Year declared inactive (4 digit year only)
114 Blank Space
115-125 ReChartering Date (mm/dd/yyyy format)
If I still didn't do it right, we'll try again after the holiday.

PS For those unfamilair with the last two "good luck" activities listed in
the beginning of the message, they are rituals done by Turk Wendell, one of
the newest pitchers for the Chicago Cubs. He didn't do all that well in his
first two starts, but monday's game was promising. If he can pitch, he'll
probably become another Mark "the Bird" Fidrich (Detroit Tigers, 1976/77),
assuming he doesn't get a sore arm.
