This is a fraternity. Greek letters and all.
Fraternities are percieved as sexist by most people who aren't in one.
Everyone has heard of the legendary sticky-floor extravaganzas held by
so many fraternities, where women are disrespected.
Social action groups like to spread stories about sexism surrounding
fraternities.

Now try to explain the word "brother" to someone who has heard all
these things. It's a pain in the a$$ to try to convince someone that A
Phi O is not sexist when all they see is the greek letters and the
male references to female people.

The standard response to this problem is "well, some people just can't
be talked to". Maybe. But maybe they have a point.

We have to remember how we look on the outside. Ask your pledges or
new initiates how they felt about the sexism thing. I personally can
name at least one who joined with us in part because we are not
sexist. I'm glad she understood where some other people do not.

Yours in Leadership, Friendship, and Service,
Jeff "Reds" Brown
