I am one of the two newsletter editors this semester at Gamma Gamma (UCBerkeley)
Our newsletter comes out 5 or 6 times per semester. We pass it out at our
chapter meetings (which are every other week) and after that you can pick them
up from in front of our office. These 5 or 6 regular issues include brief
summaries of chapter and ex-comm meetings and sometimes other committee
meetings. They also include reports about most service projects and fellowship
events, games our intramural teams competed in, opinion pieces which we almost
always accept as is from any member of our chapter, any piece which one of our
officers wants to write about what they are doing, a list of upcoming birthdays,
and a list of people looking for housing and people who know of housing. we
also have a fun page which varies a lot from semester to semester. this
semester, we have "Farmboy of Film" (movie reviews), "He Said/She Said" which
is two opposing pieces by a man and a women where two people write how men and
women see things differently, a number of funny things like top ten lists which
one of our members finds, and a lot of personals. this semester, we have also
had one column about relationships, which one of our members wanted to write,
and we have tried to find neat sayings which we could print.
In addition to our regular issues, we have been trying to do a few special
things. at the beginning of the semester, we put together a pledge survival
guide to supplement the national pledge guide and describe gamma gamma. we
worked together with the pledgemaster to produce this. in one regular issue
we had a couple of pages of advice for families (2-3 big sibs and 2-3 little
sibs), and a later issue had a fake front page for april fools (something about
switching to a pledge year. At the end of the semester we will have a funpack
which will have one interview of each pledge, a few interviews of actives, a
LOT of personals, and senior farewells.
We have two editors who were appointed by our administrative VP. We have a
staff who help us a lot. Thus, this semester, there are two editors-in-chief
(me and Joel Tchao), one layout editor, one service page editor, one fun page
editor, and a number of other people who write columns or come by and type out
or just help out. (we couldn't find a fellowship page editor.)
