Once a year either at convention or one of the regional conferences
the APO LEADS Trainers pull out all the stops and offer all the
training courses necessary to become an APO LEADS Presenter. This
year it is Region 4 that has agreed to host the training at their
conference in Atlanta Dec 27-30. There are still many spots
available in each course.
On Dec 27th and 28th the two Basic Skills courses, Presentation
Skills and Facilitation Skills, will be offered. These courses are
called Basic Skills because they are the fundamentals of
communication with a group. Even if you have no intent of becoming
an APO LEADS Presenter, your goal is to work with sectional or
regional staff, you should consider taking these courses. The
national Internal Volunteer Development curriculum includes them as
part of new volunteer orientation. They are also excellent for
personal development. Many employers will offer recognition of this
kind of training.
If you are interested in becoming an APO LEADS Presenter, there are
three things you should do before attending the training courses.
1) You should be an alumni member
2) You should have attended the course for which you want to be a Presenter
3) You should read the Presenter Development Guide to understand the
job of a Presenter
The Presenter Development Guide can be found on the National
Leadership Development site. In the menu on the left, click APO
LEADS-->Presenters and the link for the guide will be in the text
that comes up on the right. While you're on the site, click on
Calendar. Use the pull downs to see the schedule for the courses,
training and otherwise, being offered at the R4 conference (or
elsewhere). If what is described in the Presenter Development Guide
sounds good and the schedule fits, then send a message to
training.coordinator@leadership.apo.org indicating for which courses
you wish to register. You may also want to indicate that you have
done the above three items. You need to register for content courses
no more than a week before the courses as you will be asked to do
some reading and other preparation. Allow yourself extra time
depending on your holiday schedule.
If you only wish to attend one or both of the Basic Skills courses, a
message still needs to be sent to
training.coordinator@leadership.apo.org to register.
Please note that registering for these courses is independent of
registering for the conference. Because of the preparation required,
the courses cannot accept walk-ins. Registration for the R4
conference can be done at http://regionals.region4apo.org/.
If you have any questions about any of the above please feel free to
direct them to Chris Rock, the APO LEADS Coordinator who oversees the
APO LEADS program <coordiator.apoleads@leadership.apo.org>, Joanna
Adler, the Presenter Development Coordinator who is most directly
responsible for helping individual Brothers develop their
presentation skills <presdev.coordinator@leadership.apo.org>, or Kim
Yee, the Training Course Coordinator who is responsible for the
logistics of training courses including registration
<training.coordinator@leadership.apo.org>.
Hope to see many of you there!
In Brotherhood,
Chris
P.S. -- Please forward to local lists and alumni that may have lost
touch but wish to become reinvolved.
