Dear
Brothers,
We are writing to encourage your chapter to participate in the 2005
Spring
Youth Service Day (formerly known as National Spring Service Day).
SYSD
will be held on April 15-17, 2005. This event is set to coincide
with
Global and National Youth Service Day. We, as a fraternity,
utilize
Spring Youth Service Day to emphasize our commitment to helping serve
the
youth of our community. We urge you to plan and carry out a project
with
your chapter that either helps youth or directly involves youth in
your
service. By teaching the youth of today about the joys of serving
and
helping others we build a better
future.
Last year over 250 Alpha Phi Omega chapters across the country performed
approximately 30,000 hours as part of National Spring Service Day.
Many
of these projeccts helped youth in a variety of
ways.
Feel free to perform a project for SYSD at any time this spring if
April
15-17 is a busy time for your chapter. You can also perform a
long-term
project through out the quarter/semster such as reading to children in
a
head start program for a few hours a
week.
A lot of useful information on planning projects and project ideas
are
contained in the 2005 SYSD handbook sent to chapters in January. You
can
also find information on the National
Website:
(members.apo.org/service/index.php). There is also a lot of information
at the National Youth Service Day website: (www.ysa.org/nysd/)
including
resources/organizations in your community who are also participating
in
service.
Don't forget to report your participation to the APO Service Database
by
May 1st. This is part of the reporting requirement. You can submit
your
report at:
members.apo.org/service/service_reporting.php
Remember that you should report even if you are unable to
participate.
We wish to express our thanks in advance for the thousands of youth the
fraternity will help during the 2005
SYSD!
