Randy:

Thank you for defining the traits you find desirable, and not hiding
behind an at leastly partly irrelevant classification. Some of these
traits, such as size, clearly favor your "cluster". Others, such as
interested faculty, students living on campus (dormitories still sounds
anti-GLOs, no matter what disclaimer you provide), and bachelors degree
students, tend to favor schools not in your cluster. Unfortunately,
you are not even clear if some of the traits are positive or negative.

We should focus on these and other traits and only use the "clustering"
when it obviously benefits us, and we must be very careful---again, as I
am not sure you are in your statements---not to automatically discount a
chapter that does not meet all your traits. Perhaps you do not mean to
marginalize other schools, but there are certainly many among us who do
marginalize them, either intentionally or unintentionally. Too many of
our brethren are products of large schools---as I am---and are not aware
of the richness small schools offer our fraternity. I ask that you be
careful to spell out what you are looking for and not "cluster" schools
together. Perhaps if we together are very careful about what we mean,
others will become less biased and begin to realize we are not talking
about the cluster per se, but rather the traits we view as important.
