Looking for a summer job?

Consider working for one of the 3 National High Adventure Bases run by the BSA. They are looking NOW for summer employees, which is from late May thru late August. In most cases the pay is pretty decent, and you get room & board. Be advised that in some cases, 'room' will be a large canvas tent. You will also need to become a BSA Member, if you are not already. The deadline for most applications in this January.

* Philmont Scout Ranch
The most well know of the BSA HA bases is in northern New Mexico. The big focus here is on backpacking and horseback riding. They look for staff both at base camp and in the several camps around the ranch which provide program for the scouts coming thru. They have another base called the Double H Ranch that is also looking for staff. For more info, check out the Philmont Staff Association website at www.philstaff.com. Go to www.philstaff.com/stafap.html for applications (which includes a list of jobs).

* Florida Sea Base
Located in the Florida Keys, the newest base focuses on sailing and scuba diving. They have 2 bases in the Keys, as well as an 'out island' accessible via boat, and another 'base' in the Bahamas. For more info, check out the Florida Sea Base website at www.bsaseabase.org and go to the Employment item for applications (which includes a list of jobs).

* Northern Tier
A group of HA bases in Minnesota and Canada. The main base is Sommers in Ely, Minnesota, with bases in Manitoba and Ontario. Focus here is on canoeing, but this is not canoeing down a stream. For more info, check out the Northern Tier website at www.ntier.org and go into Seasonal Employment for full info and list of positions and applications.

In addition to these High Adventure Bases, consider the many summer camps and high adventure bases run by local BSA councils. They, too, are in the process of hiring their summer staff.
