Wow. I remember the letters the pledges used to get from him. I'd get
my pledge book signed by him too if I got the chance because I got my
APO bid the day he got inaugurated to his first term. That was a great
day. I got done with classes at 10, came home to watch the inauguration
and there was my bid, on the kitchen counter. Probably the best memory I
have of living in that apartment.
I remember in closed rush the night before saying in answer to the
question about who our hero was that he was my hero because of what he
made of himself after having a rough childhood. I had no idea he had
been a brother until my pledgemaster told me as I left the room.
I still admire what he did except for the womanizing part. I look
forward to getting the book, hopefully as a birthday gift in a couple of
weeks.
From what I heard about the book tour stop at Politics and Prose in the
DC area on July 6, you're allowed to have him sign only one copy of the
book and nothing else. You're also not allowed in line unless you have
a book and you're not allowed to have a book signed unless you're in
line. I'm not sure if that's the case at the other book tour stops.
I've actually seen him in person twice. Once at a post-debate rally in
Richmond in Oct. '92 and then again at Christmas Eve service at the
National Cathedral in '93. They had metal detectors everywhere and
there were long lines to get into church and no one could figure out why
until the minister said "we pray for President Clinton and his family,
who are here with us tonight." I think Al Gore and his family were
there too. We were way in the back and we saw him when we went up for
Communion.

I have a copy of the current pledge book which I have been taking with me to APO events to get the signatures of Brothers who are pictured in it. Bill is pictured with the distinguished alumni group. Be a neat addition to the other signatures I have.
