Brothers -
Over the weekend during the Section 62/64 Conference in Pittsburgh, PA, a
fire in a city church resulted in the death of two fire fighters. One of those
lost, Chief Charlie Brace, was the father of Brother Chuck Brace, an alumnus of
Pi Chi Chapter at Duquesne University and member of the National Leadership
Development Committee.
Both men were killed as the brick steeple collapsed over them after the fire
had been controlled, and the men were extinguishing "hot spots."
Chuck had come to town to help staff activities at the conference and was,
fortunately, close to home as he received the news. Chuck, his mother, and
younger brother, Dan, are staying strong as they grieve their loss in a very
public manner -- the funeral procession today is expected to close down several
city streets with its long lines of fire equipment and mourners.
Visiting Chuck yesterday at the funeral home, I was so proud of his strength.
He said, "My Dad died doing service for his community. I think I get my love
of service from him." Indeed, Chuck is a dedicated Brother with a lifetime
commitment to all our principles: Leadership, Friendship, and Service.
Friends may send their thoughts and support to Chuck: brace347@yahoo.com
