Personally, I don't think it's very important to have
pledges memorize the official jeweler. It's not
crucial to our cardinal principles that they should be
learning, and most pledges (and brothers) probably
don't give a rat's ass about it anyway (heck, even
Randy Finder said it wasn't that important LOL ;-) ...
Of course, it does make for some interesting trivia,
so it's got some minor value there, so it might be
worth leaving in the pledge manuals. But I would never
prevent a pledge from becoming a brother because they
can't spout out the official jeweler, or the history
of the official jewelers,...

The National Executive Director is the editor of, "all
fraternity publications," which includes the pledge
manual, among other things. I would start by bringing
this up with Bob London. It may be something that he
could editorially do. If not, one could pass a
resolution at the national convention in Denver to
remove that particular item from the pledge manual;
sort of like what was done in New Orleans to add the
Oath of Loyalty and Service to the pledge manual.
Granted, resolutions are non-binding, but they do
carry a certain amount of weight in directing the
staff and volunteers to carry out certain things that
the active brotherhood wants. And as an example, the
Oath of Loyalty & Service is now included in the
pledge manual. So whether you want to add or delete
something to or from the pledge manual or otherwise, a
resolution would be the way to do it.

Chapters determine their own requirements for their
own pledging program, so there's really nothing we can
do here. We can "de-emphasize" it by removing it from
the pledge manual, though.

Since the Boy Scout Handbook and the OA Handbook are
not Fraternity publications, we would have to get Bob
London to contact the editor of those publications
within the Boy Scouts and provide the correct contact
information to be included. Considering that the
@apo.org domain and addresses have been used for quite
some time now, I would be quite surprised if this has
not been done yet (but then again, I've seen some
weirder stuff before?).
