We've been fairly fortunate as a fraternity. I'm on several Hazing and
fraternity news mailing lists and a great deal of the lawsuits, if they were
for Alpha Phi Omega, would seriously impact the fraternity. There seems to
be at least one 7 figure judgement against an NPHC group (Hist black
fraternities & sororities) a year...

I have not heard of any death in any APO active chapter's pledge program
tied in any way to the pledging process. I have heard of only one death in
an underground chapter's pledging program and that was not due directly to
actions taken by the chapter. (about 10 years ago)

There have been accidents in travel to APO events. 4 brothers and an advisor
were killed in an accident on the way to the 1966 convention in Minneapolis,
and I know that an accident on the way to Denver ('88) or St. Louis ('90)
put at least one brother in a coma.

But the Risk Management Policy was not created primarily to save the
fraternity money. It was also created to help avoid injuries and deaths of
the members of the fraternity.
