Honorary membership has been done fairly loosely in Alpha Phi Omega over the
years. While some Honorary members have gone through the brotherhood
ceremony many have not. While all of the Presidents of the United States
from JFK to GB Sr. have had honorary membership, I don't believe that any of
them have attended a brotherhood ceremony (I could be wrong). I remember
reading about GB Sr. being given Honorary membership (By Washington U of
STL, I think), but the way the article was written it was announced to him
publicly without any official ceremony. I'd like to find out more about the
circumstances of the presentations.

In addition, the fraternity has given honorary membership to at least two
non-humans, as there are entries for "War Eagle" and "War Eagle V" at Delta
chapter, which were the names of the Golden Eagles which were the U of
Auburn mascots in the care of the fraternity. It is entirely possible that
other chapters (U Connecticut?) have initiated school mascots in the
chapter's care.

As for Posthumous Honoraries, I know of at least one. When Alpha Epsilon Rho
chapter initiated back in october, Honorary membership was given to a person
instrumental in the early efforts of the group: Bruce Mayles. His father
stood in for him at the initaition ceremony.

As for 6 years after the person? Don't know. But I'd love to know the
situation.
