Subject: Re: Things to consider in rearranging the APOffice
Hi Len,
To answer your questions:
...
*In your other email, you mentioned the vise and. .... 2) The
vise as it is right now is not great for office space. We will
probably be moving it and the paper cutter; let¹s talk more about
what surfaces can be used with the vise, but the one it is on right
now is not great for the front office.
Best,
Vicki
My memory is that Vicki & I had at least one more pair of exchanges
about the Vice on the Worktable. I couldn't find them. She doesn't
want the worktable to stay in the APOffice. She suggested that we just
move the vise to another surface along with the paper cutter and the
pencil sharpener. Which isn't safe.
Use of a vise is necessary and essential to maintain and repair the
press shop equipment. It's useful at times for other things.
To be useful for press maintenance, and for most use:
* the vise needs to be near the height it is now. That is, it needs to
be mounted at a height so it can be used while standing. It is
unsafe to use it at a lower height. It is unsafe to use it seated or
bent over. None of the other surfaces in the front APOffice are high
enough.
* the surface the vice is mounted on has to be thick, and material has
able to hold bolts under force over time. The 'table' has to be
sturdy. The object in the vise has to be held well and steadily. If
the surface is thin or weak, it's possible for the vice to detach
suddenly, which is not safe.
* there has to be a certain amount of working room, around it. But
that can be created on the fly, depending on how the vise is used.
The hand-turned pencil sharpener on the worktable is superior to the
electric one. You can get a sharper point with less loss of pencil with
it. It could be relocated.
It's easiest to use the paper cutter standing up at the height of the
worktable. It could be moved elsewhere.
The worktable only takes 10 (ten) square feet of floor space.
The front APOffice has over 630 square feet of floor space, which APO
has over 80%.
So the worktable takes up about 2% (two%) of the floor space APO has.
AX can't afford that floor space?
We had a lengthy in-depth discussion about this in 2011(?). The last
time the APOffice was rearranged. Many options were considered. We
settled for leaving the vice on the worktable in the front APOffice. I
could spend the time to dig that out, but time is so precious for me
since the head trauma. If needed, could someone else dif it out?
I hope a way can be found to keep the vise on the worktable in the
APOffice. The top of the table can also be used for other things and
tasks. The space under could be continue to be used other storage,
perhaps the ritual equipment..
