Hello all,
I asked my boss what to do today at work, and he told me to "kick back and surf
the internet." I think I'll take this opportunity to tell you about service
projects we have lined up for the fall.
Sat Aug. 19 - Mon Aug. 28 -- HowToGAMIT book distribution
Sit at a booth in the student center and give the books to frosh. Exact times
and more detailed instructions can be found on this wiki page:
http://scripts.mit.edu/~cporter/booth-signup/index.php?title=W20FreshmanDistro
Also put in any hours you want to work by editing that wiki page. It would
probably be good if we can get 2 people there at most times.
Wed Aug. 30 - Fri Sept. 1 -- Book Exchange drop off hours
Mon Sept. 4 - Fri Sept. 8 -- Book Exchange
Mon Sept. 18 - Fri Sept. 22 -- Book Exchange pick up hours
Brown is the PC and Kelsey is the manpower subPC. Expect an email from Kelsey at
some point telling you about the exact hours and asking you to sign up. A lot of
time has already been put into trying to make sure book-ex goes off smoothly
this year, so sign up for hours and do your part to make sure the PCs stay sane.
Tue Sept. 5 -- Registration Day
Huanan is the PC. He should also be sending an email at some point asking people
to help, and you know you want to help because who can pass up a free breakfast
and lunch? I think times are 8:30am-5pm, plus a half hour to set up the day
before.
Thu Sept. 14 -- National Braille Press **This needs a PC**
I'm still in the process of confirming this project, so I don't know the exact
time they want us to come in. Hopefully it will be in the evening so that we
can do it. I think they have something for us to do which isn't just the usual
putting braille stickers on books. More details to come once it's confirmed,
but he said this was one of the more fun projects that they usually have people
do. Let me know if you want to PC this.
Sat Sept. 16 -- Greater Boston Food Bank **This needs a PC**
Help sort food so that it can be distributed to local agencies that feed the
hungry. The project is 12:45-4pm, and they can use a lot of people in their
warehouse. Let me know if you want to PC this.
Fri Sept. 22 - Sat. Sept. 23 -- Chapter Weekend **This needs a PC**
I believe this is on a 4-day weekend so there is some flexibility with the
times/days. I don't have a location yet. Let me know if you want to PC this and
we can get more details figured out.
Thanks for reading. I hope everyone enjoys what's left of summer.
YiLFS,
Irene
