Howdy there, folks. This is Ann (Yen). This e-mail message
won't be quite as perky as the other one, b/c what I want to
say about this Saturday's project isn't really a perky thing.

The project this Saturday involves doing publicity for AIDS Action's
annual Dance-a-thon. It's their biggest fundraiser of the year (as
I understand it). We might have tried a people project type-thing,
but we aren't expreienced or trained enough. So, to help them out,
they want us to break up into groups (small ones) and go to various
areas to replenish stands advertising the dance-a-thon and distribute
some more publicity material. It should be relatively quick and painless,
providing we get a good number of people (the woman I talked with
was aiming for about 15).

Instead of the usual pleading and begging that PC's are wont to do,
I thought I'd tell you why I offered to PC this project. I did
"Color Guard"/"Winter Guard" in high school. (For those of you unfamiliar
with this term, it refers to those weirdly-attired, flag, rifle, and
sabre-throwing people who run around basketball floors.) My instructor,
whom I admired a great deal, and who was my friend, died of AIDS in
the spring of my senior year, the day after Prom. It was a great
blow to all of us that knew him. AIDS hits much closer to home when
it's someone YOU know and not just "another victim".

At any rate, this isn't a sob story or sympathy play. I just thought
that if any of you had been similarly affected by AIDS (or even if you
haven't), you might consider coming on this project. We aren't
allowed to help "directly", but they need all the help they can get.
Chances are (at the rate at which it has been spreading) that someone
you know will be affected by it sooner or later. Please come.

Ok, now for the details in summary fashion:
