hello apo-peoples. once again i wield my supreme and awesome power
as your apoc editor! the apoc will be out wednesday, september 29 (deadline
some reasonable time monday evening) because i decided to have one big huge
fat apoc (oooo!) rather than one normal apoc and one puny apoc. however,
because our dear diligent apoc-minded president has kindly submitted an
article (hint hint) that was meant for this week's apoc, here it is...
Hello everyone.
This is your beloved president. At the last chapter meeting, we had
junior officer elections. Or, such was the plan. What actually happened was
this. John Hollywood accepted a nomination for ASC, Rachel Caileff accepted a
nomination for publicity chair, and no candidate for Historian was even found.
Everybody and his brother (footnote- that's a really neat figure of speech to
use when you're talking about APO stuff) declined nominations for all three
offices. The elections were tabled until the next chapter meeting, with the
hope that a little extra time to network with people would unearth a few more
eager candidates for these offices.
First, I'd like to give you the plain old "just the facts" summary of these
three offices. The ASC (Administrative Support Chair) is responsible for
keeping the office supplies at a resonable level. He/she will collect items
for the Steak Fry auction. The constitution also says the ASC is responsible
for keeping the office and the chapter's working spaces clean and organized,
(though as Dave pointed out very emphatically at the meeting, this does not
mean the ASC is the "mommy" and should not be used an excuse for everyone else
to be a slob.) The Publicity director is in charge of maintaining the infinite
corridor board, keeping the office suplied with paint and drop poster paper,
and maintaining APO's visibility on campus. The historian's job is to record
chapter events by taking photos, keeping scrapbooks, archiving the APOC and
other such things. The current incumbents are Amy Hsu as publicity chair, Ann
Yen as historian and, well, the ASC would be me.
My own personal opinion is that all three of these offices are ones in which
the minimum effort required is quite small. You can do a passable job in any
of these positions without putting in much time at all. This should be good
news during those weeks when academics get particularly scary. Hopefully,
there will also be times when the load is lighter, and you'll have the chance
and the inclination to do more than a "passable" job. Take historian, for
example. If you've been to any of the rush events you've seen how many times
in the last few weeks the scrapbooks and the board of photos have been taken
out and looked through. A good historian can have a lot of fun and give the
chapter something to enjoy for years and years to come.
Please take some time, look your schedule over, and give some serious
thought over the next couple of weeks to whether or not you can run for an
office. If you decide to run, get in touch with me. Thank you all.
Yours in brotherhood,
Kevin
wait! there's more! as pubdir (yes, i am one of those amazing
two-office holders who would very much like to be relieved of one office
at the next chapter meeting hint hint hint), i changed the infinite corridor
board again. my humble apologies to bridget for having to remove the bottom
part of her beautiful blue apo board stuff. i measured the board correctly,
then proceeded to forget the measurements and measure the paper incorrectly.
yes! this is what i learned at mit! anyway, being pubdir does NOT mean that
you have to change the board single-handedly; i just did because i always de-
cided very suddenly when i wanted to change it. okay? now run for pubdir!

p. s. the bottom half of bridget's artwork is currently being guarded with
my life and will be reverently handed over to the next pubdir as soon as there
is one.
