hello brothers,

We will be doing setup for the book exchange this sunday starting around 7pm.
email me if you would be interested in helping out.

this year we will be ussing the the same computer interface that was used on
the last 2 exchanges. there should be a copy of the instructions next to
the computer. you can also find this document in the apo locker, under
/mit/apo/Software/BookExchange/Instructions.*
make sure every book you receive and sell has a label attached to it on the first
page(not the cover), top right hand corner. when someone brings you the books
print labels for them, validate the books, print the contract and make them
sign it. the printer might take a while/jam. if it blinks the orange light
it probably means that it needs paper or something. feeding paper to it and
pressing the button next to it seemed to make it happy. printing might take
a long time sometimes, this is due to network sucking/complexity of the print
process. i have been warned that there have been cases where printing has
taken in the order of 5 minutes. my only suggestion is to wait.

NOTE: do not try to take a label from the middle of the sheet and try to move
it to the areas to which the printer can print to. you will jam the printer
if you try this. we will use the labels that are in the middle of the page
later. if you're running out of labels, contact us.

special cases:
1. MITFS: they will probably bring just too many books to actually
keep track of ussing the system(it would be just too painful). those books
are identified with the mitfs logo in the inside cover and page 82?. make
note of the information they give you for selling the books and note this in
the logbook. when you sell one of these books you should note it in the
logbook *in red* including the amount you sold it for. MITFS books are the only
books that can be received and sold without explicitly labeling ourselves.

2. if someone want to sell several books as a set: label the first book with the
label you printed and add by hand (1 of n). label the rest of the books with
handwritten labels and number them. rubberband them together.

During the exchange:
we'll be open from 10-5. if there are any problems, please note them in the
logbook. if the problem is serious enough that you cannot deal by yourself,
try contacting me(x5-1764, zwrite int18) or Malima(x5-1793), zwrite -i apo,
pray, find someone of authority or whatever you feel is necesary.
log all sales in the logbook *in blue* in addition to the computer system(in case it
crashes).

please ask the customers to leave the backpacks at the entrance. asure them
their backpacks will be safe.

if there is someone that wants to sell CDs, movies or their pet hamster, turn
them away. only books. other things tend to walk off/die much more easilly.
course readers and some varieties of bibles are probably acceptable.

if a seller makes you uneasy(trying to sell 80 copies of the 8.01 book that
look new), try to politelly turn him away.

finally, be polite to the customers,

well, sorry for the awfully long email. i really hope that was everything.
i will print a copy of this email and include it in the documentation.
