Minutes of ExecComm (August 18, 1993)
Administrative notes:
Start: 5:36pm; End: 6:30pm. Present: Bridget Spitznagel, Ezra Erb, Ping
Huang, Kevin Dahm, Dave Cho, Yale Zussman, Harry Tsai, Kate Curtis
Officers' Reports:
SVP's Report:
Ping: I've already contacted the appropriate people for all our
beginning-of-term projects (Activities Midway, Reg Day, Book Exchange,
etc.) We had a project on the 14th---it was fun. We went out to Gallop's
Island and hauled metal up a hill.
I could use some help getting two Open Projects, although I *can* manage it
myself if need be. I'm no longer working, and I'll have time. In
particular, does anyone want to help with phone-calling?
Kate (Book Exchange PC): I'll be gone until September 2nd. I still need a
treasurer, but I think I'll wait until people come back to look for one. I
also need someone to put up a Student Center poster on the 1st. It would
be nice if they could take care of making it, too.
Ping: Dave is PC'ing Reg Day.
Dave: Gilbert is food PC. I think Henning is going to do manpower.
MVP's Report:
Bridget: This week, I've been helping friends move. :) But I'll be changing
the Inifinite Corridor Board for Rush. I've also been trying to do some
PostScript for flyers. Harry reserved rooms for Open Meetings---note that
the one on the 2nd is in the afternoon, not the evening.
I'll need help postering. If the SCC postering service is still around,
I'll get them to do it.
I've also been reviewing the pledge book.
AVP's Report:
Harry: I made reservations. If you want to double-check them, here they
are:

I think this covers everything except Initiation. Bridget is looking into
that.
Treasurer's Report:
Gilbert: Nothing to report.
Yale: Do we have any money?
Gilbert: Yeah, we always have money.
Ping: Are the books up-to-date?
Kate: I've closed my books. Only, I haven't written a check to the
National Braille Press yet. Fortunately, I'm Book Exchange PC, so I'll do
it then. :)
Fellowship Chair's Report:
There's an Open Fellowship event on September 18th. I need a creative,
energetic, outgoing PC and an idea for what to do. I need someone and
something to get people together and make them talk to each other.
I want to plan FellowshipComm for the week after CPPC, so that people will
have the discussion fresh in their minds.
President's Report:
Kevin: I'm thinking of having CPPC on September 25th. We don't have a
project for that day yet, but I want some kind of open project that'll only
take the morning.
Yale: That's a Jewish holiday. It might not be a good idea to have it
then.
Kevin: Yeah, Ping and I debated that a little. Hmm, I'll think about it
some more.
Committee Reports:
Coke Machine
Kevin: Any progress on getting the Coke Machine fixed/replaced, Gilbert?
Gilbert: I haven't been able to talk to anyone at Coke. [epic narrative on
playing phone tag and begin given the runaround]
Ping: Dima was interested in being Coke Chair. He wasn't here this summer,
though.
Kevin: I'll appoint a Coke Chair when the term begins.
Chapter Meetings
Kevin: There's still the issue of what day of the week to have Chapter
Meeting on. Right now, all of them are scheduled for Wednesday, although
lots of people preferred Tuesday, and there were lots who said they
wouldn't know until they were into the term. I'll send out mail when term
begins and bring up the matter at the first Chapter Meeting.
Book Exchange
But right now, Book Exchange is our most pressing issue.
Kate: Mostly, I need help with publicity. I'll need one round of postering
to say, ``Drop off your books now!'' and a drop poster to let people know
Book Exchange is coming. As soon as we have West Lounge, I'll poster the
outside windows.
Also, we're ready to start taking books now.
MiscellanyComm :)
Kevin: Guess what? I recovered some tools that were borrowed during the
MIT/BU Joint Conclave. I'll be bringing them back to the office soon.
Harry: I checked with the UA, and yes, we do have a reservation for
Activities Midway. (By the way, it's on Tuesday, August 31, from 7-9.)
Kate: Someone should remember to save the Midway display so we can set it
up at Book Exchange.
Ping: We should try to get a slide show together.
[Someone asks what's going to be on the IC Board.]
Bridget: I'll be putting up mostly Rush stuff.
Kevin: Any other concerns?
Cart!!
Kate: Cart! We really need one...
[ For those who haven't been following the saga of the cart... Our big,
four-wheeled pushcart disappeared about two and a half months ago. We've
seen neither hide nor hair of it since. ]
Ping: The way I see it, we have three choices: 1) recover it, 2) borrow
one, or 3) invest in a new one. [Short discussion ensues...]
Kevin: I'll find out how much they cost. In the meantime, everyone keep an
eye out for it.
Dave: I'll ask _The_Thistle_ if we can borrow theirs.
Ride Board
Yale: Ride Board?
Gilbert: Glenn and I were working until Finals, then we stopped. I haven't
been able to work on it this summer because of my job, but I'm planning to
finish it before the term begins.
[Questions about getting more people to work on it and how much work is
actually left.]
Gilbert: The main problem is that you really can't have more than two
people working on it at once. But I think it can be finished with only
four or five more days of work.
Announcements
Ezra: Someone needs to work on keeping the comics off the coffee table. By
the way, why do we have the Big Screw back?
Several: Elliot Leavitt left MIT for greener pastures.
Ping: We should lean on bert to do the WUAPO.
Dave: Bert and Barbara are currently tied up doing SIPB documentation.
Ping: Remind him that he committed to the WUAPO first.
Dave: Won't help.
Ping: Oh well.
Ezra: There's a ``Meet the Mold'' party scheduled for September 26th.
Should we do it??
Kate: The mold didn't sound too interested when you asked at their meeting.
Nico [walks in, has the question put to him]: We think you already have too
many parties for the alumni. We'd rather *you* came to one of ours.
PFTGOTO
Kate: I need help painting!!!
[Ping volunteers to do the drop poster.]
