With regards to having multiple people purchase food for the same event
because of mis-communication, I can see that it can (and has happened)
but I don't think it is relevant to the suggested standing policy. If it
happens, it can either be resolved as Kevin and Dave Kern did (on
individual basis), or the chapter would have reimbursed both of them for
the food and then have to figure out what to do with it -- either with
or (as is the case now) without a new standing policy on sign-ups.

With regards to actually implementing anything: Crystal, if you would
remember to bring this up in the fall (we cannot enact anything in the
summertime) and figure out some form which would be palatable to
everyone in discussion... I don't want to see a committee formed because
that to me seems ridiculous administrative overhead, but some other
input on the policy would be good. I do like the idea of having better
defined meanings for sign-up list symbols. (I already use the rule of
thumb that about one-third of the maybes can be expected to show up;
having a policy definition would be nice, as we already loosely use
probably as a more-yes-than-just-maybe answer.)

As for financial concerns, I'd be more interested in seeing brothers
keep their commitments because they made the commitments and not because
they have a couple of dollars at stake. As for pressure, an anonymous
message to any of the officers that someone is pressuring too hard for
people to be present at a given event will gets results pretty quickly,
I think (I can only guarantee that for myself, of course, but I expect
that other officers feel the same way).
