I wanted to let everyone know that there are still many available
appointments to donate blood Monday and Tuesday at MIT (8am-6pm both
days). http://web.mit.edu/blood-drive/www/
We're also short on volunteers. If you have some time and want to
help with that, you can sign up at http://tinyurl.com/1117drive

Subject: Blood Drive at MIT...11/20 - 11/21
Executive Summary: MIT's November blood drive will be Monday 11/20
and Tuesday 11/21. As usual, the drive will be held in La Sala in
the Student Center. The drive will run from 8am to 6pm both days.
Make an appointment (for faster service): http://web.mit.edu/blood-drive/www/
To sign up to volunteer at the drive: http://tinyurl.com/1117drive
The Red Cross is offering an opportunity to complete the reading and
health questionnaire from the comfort of your home or office, which is
supposed to save you around 15 minutes at the drive itself. To do this,
visit http://www.redcrossblood.org/rapidpass, but be aware of several
caveats: 1) this *must* be done the same day as your donation 2) You
will need to be able to show a copy of your form (either emailed to
yourself, or printed) at the drive 3) MIT's drives are located in zip
code 02139. It is now possible to complete the RapidPass process using
a mobile device, such as your phone.
Hello,
Please allow me to begin by thanking everyone who made the extra effort
to donate at our September drive. We collected 148 units of blood, and
each one may have helped as many as three people. Please note that our
goal for November is 140 units over only two days (rather than five days
in September) so please take the time to come in and donate.

The Red Cross relies on appointments to decide how many staff to
provide on a given day. Making appointments will decrease your wait,
and make the drive run faster as a whole (even if you can only tell us
what day you want to donate, and not what time during the day.) To make
an appointment, fill out the form at:
http://web.mit.edu/blood-drive/www/
If you cannot make an appointment please feel free to come to the
drive and donate anyway.
We can always use more volunteers to help out during the drive to get
people registered quickly and take some of the pressure off the Red
Cross workers. Even if you can't donate blood, you're encouraged to
donate some of your time to the drive. Some of the services that
volunteers may perform are registering donors, staffing the canteen,
and providing moral support to the donors. No previous experience is
necessary to volunteer. All these efforts are important to the
drive's success. To volunteer, send e-mail to
blood-drive-coordinators@mit.edu, and someone will reply to you
shortly before the drive starts.
Blood Donation Factoids:
* Meat, fish, sunflower seeds, and dark-green leafy vegetables are
all high in iron, and can be eaten on a regular basis to raise
your blood-iron level.
* Every two seconds, someone in the U.S. needs blood
