Dear Student,

The following is a description for an amazing opportunity to receive a
fellowship to The LeaderShape Institute. For the first time ever, The
LeaderShape Institute is coming to MIT, and 60 students will have the
opportunity to take part in this exciting experience. We are two of the
twelve MIT students chosen to participate in this program last year at the
University of Illinois (all-expenses paid). Based on our experience there,
we felt it was something that no MIT student should miss, hence we set out
to bring The LeaderShape Institute to MIT. Leadership training is something
lacking in the core education at MIT, so please take a few minutes to
learn more about this fellowship. In all frankness, this has been the
single most important learning experience at MIT for us. We hope that
you will consider applying. We also request that you pass along the word
to your respective student organizations. Although the application process
is selective, The LeaderShape Institute is looking for students from all
types of backgrounds and experiences. So, please read the rest of this
message. If there are any questions, please send them via email.

P.S. Good Luck !!!

The LeaderShape Institute at MIT

MIT is bringing to campus an intensive six day leadership
development workshop designed to enhance the leadership abilities of
student leaders on the MIT campus. The training is provided by
LeaderShape, Inc., a non-profit organization committed to developing
young adults to lead with integrity. The program begins by evaluating
individual leadership styles and expands to organizational motivation.
This is not a passive learning experience, filled with lectures. This
is a dynamic, interactive program that will give you the opportunity
to explore personal characteristics, expand leadership knowledge, and
spend an entire week with 60 other exceptional student leaders at MIT.

Have you ever fallen off a table into the waiting arms of
total strangers? How about climbing a ten-foot wall with nothing but
your bare hands (and a few newly found friends)? These are the types
of experiences you can expect from this interactive week of leadership
development. Students first began falling, climbing and participating
in the active learning of leadership in 1986. Last year, over 400
students from around the nation participated in the program, raising
the total alumni to nearly 2000. Through a grant from the Kellogg
Foundation, MIT was given the opportunity to implement this exciting
week for MIT students for the summer of 1995. Our organization has
received funds from the following corporations: Procter & Gamble,
Motorola, Ameritech, and United Technologies. The Office of the Dean
of Engineering has also supported the program with a $20,000 grant.
With this funding, we will provide a fellowship to every student
chosen to participate in the LeaderShape. There will be no cost to
participants other than a committent of your time.

The program will occur this summer from May 30 - June 4, the
week following final exams at MIT and will be held on Thompson's
Island in Boston Harbor the home of Outward Bound. Students will be
housed there for the entire week.

LeaderShape, Inc. has brought this leadership development
program to MIT to support the current and future leaders in student
organizations at MIT. The program will not only provide you with
individual leadership training, but also allow you to form personal
friendships with many other outstanding student leaders on campus. To
apply for this unique experience, please complete the an application
(see below). Participation will be limited to sixty MIT students who
will BE RETURNING TO MIT FOR AT LEAST ONE YEAR.

Completed applications should be returned by Friday, April 7 to
Room 7-103, C/O of Ida Faber.

Applications will be available beginning Tuesday, March 21, in W20-549 and
7-103, and the OME.
