Subject: Blood Drive at MIT...7/13 - 7/17; Friendly's ice cream; Red Sox

Executive Summary: There will be a blood drive at MIT from Monday,
July 13 through Friday, July 17, in La Sala in the Student Center.
The drive will run from 1pm to 6pm every day except Tuesday and from
8am to 1pm then. All donors will be able to enter a raffle for Red
Sox tickets, and will also receive a coupon for a free carton of
Friendly's ice cream. Please use http://web.mit.edu/blood-drive/www/
to make an appointment for faster service. We're also regularly short
of volunteers. Please drop a note to blood-drive-coordinators with
your availability if you have some time to volunteer.

Hello,

Please allow me to begin by thanking everyone who made our May drive a
success. We collected over 250 units of blood. On behalf of the Red
Cross, thank you for saving lives.

The Red Cross will be holding a blood drive at MIT from Monday, July
13 through Friday, July 17, in La Sala in the Student Center. The
drive will run from 1pm to 6pm every day except Tuesday, when it will
run from 8am to 1pm. All donors will be able to enter a raffle for
Red Sox tickets, and will also receive a coupon, redeemable at
participating restaurants, for a free carton of Friendly's ice cream.
By giving blood, or volunteering your time at the blood drive, you can
help save lives.

The summer is the hardest time to keep the blood banks stocked in the
area. More people injure themselves, and at the same time schools are
out or have fewer students around to donate. If you are around,
please take the time to donate blood as it is a great way to save
lives and get free cookies.

The Red Cross relies on appointments to decide how many staff to
provide on a given day. Making appointments will decrease your wait,
and make the drive run faster as a whole (even if you can only tell us
what day you want to donate, and not what time during the day.) To
make an appointment, fill out the form at:

	http://web.mit.edu/blood-drive/www/

If you cannot make an appointment please feel free to come to the
drive and donate anyway.

We can always use more volunteers to help out during the drive to get
people registered quickly and take some of the pressure off the Red
Cross workers. Even if you can't donate blood, you're encouraged to
donate some of your time to the drive. Some of the services that
volunteers may perform are registering donors, staffing the canteen,
and providing moral support to the donors. No previous experience is
necessary to volunteer. All these efforts are important to the
drive's success. To volunteer, send e-mail to
blood-drive-coordinators@mit.edu, and someone will reply to you
shortly before the drive starts.

Blood Donation Factoids:

  * Drink extra fluids before your donation. You can begin to drink extra
fluids the day before your donation. Water and juices are great, but
try to avoid a lot of caffeine.

  * One unit of blood can be separated into components (red cells,
platelets and plasma) and used to treat up to three patients.

If you want to forward this message, feel free as long as you are

behalf. If anyone wants to get on our mailing list they can check the
appropriate box when making an appointment, or fill out the form at
