Hi all,

I apologize for sending this to so many people. I am starting an
electronics/robotics cooperative at the Edgerton Center for students who
are interested in doing their own electronics projects but don't have the
resources themselves. We have lots of equipment like scopes, logic
analyzers, protoboards, LEGOs, and are now in the process of ordering (and
having donated) around $3-$4k in parts and more equipment. We're also
trying to set up several computers in the lab for computer interface
projects, as well as the ability to use programmable chips like PALs,
FPGAs, and small microcontrollers.

OUR FIRST MEETING WILL BE TOMORROW (THURSDAY) NIGHT AT 7pm IN THE EDGERTON
CENTER (right off Strobe alley, room 4-409). At this initial meeting we
will discuss many things, including what we should buy with our budget.
We'll also discuss setting up the lab in the Edgerton center, with the goal
of being done at the end of IAP.

Part of the motivation for setting up this lab is that undergraduates
typically don't have access to electronics labs other than through UROP.
In particular, if you want to work on your -own- project (and not someone
else's), it's hard to find resources. Lots of undergraduates think up and
do their own software projects, because public athena clusters are all
around campus. This is an attempt to make available the same sorts of
resources for doing electronics and robotics projects.

I've talked to many people who are interested in this so far, but thought I
should try to distribute this message to more people before the meeting.
I hope people get excited, come to the meeting, and get in on the ground
floor for starting this new, student-run organization.

Thanks!! Hope to see you there.
