Missing fonts from XFree86...

In fiddling with Xess help-text, I note that
there seem to be a bunch of missing fonts.

Specifically, if you select Help->Index in Xess, the font comes up
unreadable.

Fiddling with xfontsel for a few hours didn't help at all (it also
didn't help that I don't know much about X fonts).

Per yoav's suggestion, prepending the fonts used on Athena pmaxen
makes everything hunky-dory.

What's the right solution here? Is there a good way for me to figure
out what fonts are missing and where a good place to get them is?
