...and even that doesn't work sometimes. This is a driver bug, and the
driver maintainer says he can't reproduce the problem. Since we
(apparently) can, we should get in touch with him to see if we can
arrange some way to debug it. [alternately, we could put in some
debugging code to the probe routine]
