Upon consideration of what jhawk wrote, I think what we want is
versions of the form:
srvd.77.1 77-based, SIPB version 1
srvd.77.2 77-based, SIPB version 2
srvd.80.1 80-based, SIPB version 1
without letters to indicate testing revisions (because they would
conflict with Athena releases). I've chosen to use numbers to
identify SIPB subversions of the system packs; although we may use
lettered versions, they won't be part of the filename (just as they
aren't in the Athena releases).
srvd will point to the last finished, tested version of the system
packs. What srvd points to is not expected to be evolving except by
discrete lettered releases (just as in the Athena cell); only the most
recent srvd version is expected to be continuously evolving, and only
if srvd doesn't point to it.
According to these thoughts, I have moved the unfinished Linux system
packs to /afs/sipb.mit.edu/system/i386_linux1/srvd.77.1 and removed
the "srvd" link.
Having addressed what I believe is the only objection raised so far,
I'd like to let things sit as they are.
