I agree. It should not be primary package. But it is usefull and strongly 
debugged one. 

Have you used Tk ?
I think that writing sth like canvas widget in Tk is really complicated 
and we can just use it, not thinking any more how to write it.

But Tk is consistent and very powerfull. It is ready to be attached :-)

It will be good for Java if writing GUI might be VERY simple as it is 
with Tk.
