Hi,
I read this list till several weeks and I found that people have many
problems with the current AWT implementation. I know that Java team is
redesigning it now.
I think that lots of people (like me) need high-level GUI programming:
just widgets like entires, text, listboxes, menus and bindings, packing,
etc. Low level GUI interface is necessary, of course, but using it for
simple things produces large overhead.
Tk is the most popular environment for rapid prototyping, I think. It is
available from Tcl, and other scripting languages (Perl, Scheme,
Icon,...). There also exists Embedded Tk for use from C code.
It could be great if we have Tk native in Java with object interface to
it. It is designed in terms of objects so interfacing should not be very
difficult. And I think that Tcl/Tk team at Sun could help on such project.
Any comments ?
Kacper
