there is a regex package for java at:

i had some trouble compiling it, and never fully got it to work in the
hour i spent on it. i'm sure with more time i could have made it work,
but i don't really have a need for it yet, i just thought it might be useful.
anyway, good luck, it looks a lot like perl (which made me happy). let me
know if you get it to work. i just didn't have the time right then.
