Fields vs. Class Variables

	In looking over various documentation on Java put out by Sun-related
sources, I have seen class fields (variables global to the enitre
class) referred to as both "fields" and "class variables."
	In the on-line tutorial it is "class variables," but to be more OOP
proper, I think it should be "fields" (I think that's what is used in
Hooked on Java by van Hoff et al.)
	First of all, which is more percise?  Secondly, does any one really
care?
