Hi!
This sounds a bit like my problem under X Windows: Netscape tries to
allocate the best visual (i.e., as many color bits as possible, and
TrueColor before PseudoColor) for rendering its windows. When run
under an X server which offers a default visual different from the
best visual available (e.g., an 8-bit PseudoColor default on a 24-bit
TrueColor screen), Java applets or just the Java console crash
Netscape 2.0b4 through 2.0. Netscape 2.0b3 curiously worked fine. I
don't know what the Netscape folks changed in between (other than
replacing moz2*.car by moz2*.zip), but a possible cure is to start
Netscape with an explicitly given visual: "netscape -visual
pseudocolor", which -- naturally -- is a bit unnatural :-).
This may or may not have its equivalent under Windoze. Your mileage
may vary...
Also, if anyone knows a good fix for my problem, please let me know.
Cheers
