This is the only flaw I see in your analysis. I write Java
Applets/Modules (can we please just call them programs for the
sake of tradition?), and each non-trivial Java Applet/Module/Program
that I write requires a significant amount of my time. I program
in Java because I like the language. But are there really going
to be enough useful java applets/modules/programs written by people
like me to make the whole process FREE for people who aren't going
to have to learn java?
It is fruitless to compare whatever the Java model of software
distribution and compensation is to the current, apparently
malevolent, model of which Microsoft is a part. The Java model
is not complete.

This sounds alot like OLE automation. God forbid we could accomplish
similar goals with different technologies/tools.

What new model? At some point, people are going to want to be
compensated for the time they spent creating this "core" set
of java applets/modules/programs. At the point, I see little
different in the model.

Hey, I have no worries. I like stability.
