Juergen,

   You could have saved yourself some work. I had the dame problem 
exactly and posted a few questions about it. Finally I found out that I 
can use "-visual pseudocolor" when starting Netscape and the problem go 
away (apart from an annoying message about failure to allocate the 
background color each time a Java page is displayed). Anyway, you can 
test if it will work with a default visual of TrueColor by adding the 
following to the Xplxv command line: -I 32. This will load the X server 
with TrueColor as the default visual.
