I went to one of those Java Camp's, my recommendation is don't
bother. The description of the camp makes it sound hands on, and this
is what most people believed it to be "you will be able to Write
a basic Java applet, write fully interactive multimedia applications..."
It was a big hall of 200 people, to see an overview of Java, which is
already available on the web. There were some people giving the instructor
a hard time because of Sun's false advertising.
First the prerequisites says "experience writing network based
apps, OO software languages, etc.." And half the people there were just
there because they heard Java is the big buzz word, and didn't know
much more then that.
And the presentation itself, 2 hours of "Why Java" type stuff.
If we didn't know about Java we wouldn't be there in the first place. And
at lunch all you heard was people complaining about the course.
It should have gone twice the speed, convering things that aren't
obvious, and they should assume that everyone knows what Java is..other
wise why would they be there.
Of all the seminars I've seen in my life, that is easily the
worst one I've ever been to.
