Tahmed,

<	I went to one of those Java Camp's, my recommendation is don't
<bother. The description of the camp makes it sound hands on, and this
<is what most people believed it to be "you will be able to Write
<a basic Java applet, write fully interactive multimedia applications..."
<It was a big hall of 200 people, to see an overview of Java, which is
<already available on the web. There were some people giving the instructor
<a hard time because of Sun's false advertising.

That's a shame. It's a shame that the course was bad, but it's even
more of a shame that you've blown your training budget on what was
clearly a "get the most money from the most people" event.

Java-SIG, the national Java user group, through the auspices of the
Sun User Group, has developed an Applet programming course at SUGLabs,
in Boston. It's the exact opposite of the experience you had:

-- A maximum of 12 people per session

-- A minimum of one machine per person

	-- Personal attention

-- Hands-on instruction, every step of the class

I've attached more information on below, or you can get info at our
website:

about the Sun User group	http://www.sug.org
about Java-SIG http://www.sug.org/java-sig.html
about the course http://www.sug.org/suglabs-java.html

<If we didn't know about Java we wouldn't be there in the first place. And
<at lunch all you heard was people complaining about the course.

Well -- there's the difference. We don't serve lunch. ;-)

The Sun User Group and Java-SIG are pleased to announce their new
training facilities: SUGLabs. The Sun User Group (SUG) has a long
tradition of providing informative and timely tutorial sessions as
part of our technical conferences. Now, that same expertise has gone
into developing a program of intensive one-day seminars to be taught
at our new facilities. SUGLabs provides students with personalized
instruction, hands-on experience, and state of the art equipment.

Our goal was to develop a group of intensive and interactive classes
that will meet the needs of the Sun/SPARC community. We realize, of
course, that every user has their individual requirements and their
own set of questions they would like answered. That's why we've come
up with an entire range of courses to meet the needs of everyone, from
wizards to novices.

The first sessions, INTRODUCTION TO WRITING JAVA APPLETS, are
scheduled for Tuesdays throughout March, 1996 (March 5, March 12,
March 19, March 26). In order to provide our students with the best
possible learning environment, space is limited to 12 seats per
session.

=====================================================================

		 Introduction to Writing Java Applets

PLEASE NOTE: This course is a hands-on lab. Space is limited to 12
students per session. Please register early!

Target Audience: This one day lab class is designed to meet the needs
of C and C++ programmers, Web masters, and software managers who are
new to Java, and writing Java applets. No exposure to HTML or CGI is
assumed. Areas of focus include: language basics, installation, when
and how to use Java, inclusion in Web pages, and debugging. Labs are
done in the Sun/Solaris environment.

Topics discussed include:

* When to use Java. For some uses, other tools might be more
appropriate.

* Finding, downloading, viewing, and using Java and using Java
resources.

* Attaching Java applets to your Web page. A minimal amount of HTML
(the markup language underlying most Web pages) will be taught.

* Basics of the Java language (as a stand alone language). Java is
very much like C or C++, but there are some very important
differences.

* Installation of the Java Development Kit (JDK) including the JAVAC
(Java Compiler).

* Structure and development of Java applets. Several simple applets,
representing most aspects of Java, will be modified and run.

* Debugging Java (using JDB). Students will get hands on experience
with the abilities and limits of JDB.
