I've just downloaded the 2.0b2 version of Netscape and I can now report that
you can't view Java with MacNetscape 2.0b2...
This is what I found on a netscape page...
NEW SINCE BETA 1
LiveScript support
Improved Message Composition Window
Improved Bookmarks and Address Book Interface
Multiple attachments in Mail and News
Printing of Headers and Footers using Page Setup
Improved Bookmarks Configuration
Automatic Proxy Configuration
Additional networking improvements for modem users
Re-arranged Preferences panes and Menu items
RECENT BUG FIXES
Reload: Hitting the Reload button would draw the page from cache.
This has been fixed.
Mail and News Preferences: Settings for removing mail from the
server, and for
changing the number of news articles downloaded have been implemented.
Image Loading:Problems with the Load Images button and Auto-Load
Images setting
have been fixed.
Stability: General stability is improved.
KNOWN PROBLEMS/BUGS
Caution: Be aware that this is a beta release, and may not behave politely.
Should you crash or encounter another malfunction, please make note of what
you were doing
and contact us through the feedback page. Include a description of what you
were doing and what
you encountered, and a stack crawl if possible.
Netscape Navigator 2.0b2 for Macintosh features new networking code that
should benefit users
of dial-up connections who have had trouble with 1.x generation versions.
If you continue to
experience problems with 2.0b2, make sure both your service provider and
your SLIP/PPP
software are configured to support hardware handshaking, and are using a
proper cable designed
to support high-speed modems. If you continue to have difficulty, please
report it.
To report bugs in 2.0b2, use the feedback link from the About Netscape
page, or in the Help
(Balloon Help or Apple Guide) menu. When reporting, please include
information about your
system configuration, such as extensions, control panels, amount of RAM
installed, and system
software version., and describe what we should do to recreate the problem.
The more specific
your report, the better chance we can find and fix the bug. Please read the
following list of known
problems first.
Notable Known Problems:
Open Transport:
Netscape Navigator will not work reliably with existing
versions of Open
Transport. We are working with Apple engineers to resolve
this issue.
Java:
Macintosh support for Java is not included in this beta.
LiveScript:
The selectedIndex property of SELECT popups is always the
number of
options, not the selected option's index.
The onChange event is not sent for SELECT popups.
The window (top-level) open() function does not work.
The Navigator may crash when leaving a FRAMESET page with
LiveScript in
it.
Disk Cache:
Running the Navigator with low or no disk cache is not
recommended.
Printing:
Headers and Footers may not appear, or may appear truncated,
with some
printer/driver combinations.
Page number displays as "Page Number" of a very large number.
Printing of image link borders and Hard Rule <HR> elements is
ugly.
Mail:
The Sent Mail folder initially appears as Sent%20Mail. When
you close the mail
window and open it, it appears correctly.
Automatic Quoting of the original message in replying is not
yet implemented.
You can choose Quote Message from the Edit menu.
Cmd-F is mapped to two menu commands, Find and Forward Message.
MIME-2 encoding allows for high-bit characters to be included
in mail headers.
However, we do not yet correctly display such header in the
message window.
News:
To subscribe to a newsgroup you must Show All Newsgroups, and
click the dot
alongside the name to mark it with a subscribed icon. There
is no way to directly
enter the name of a single group.
A duplicate news host icon will appear in the upper-right pane.
Automatic Quoting of the original message in replying is not
yet implemented.
You can choose Quote Message from the Edit menu.
The Post and Mail Reply button is greyed out. You can use the
menu command.
MIME-2 encoding allows for high-bit characters to be included
in message
headers. However, we do not yet correctly display such header
in the message
window.
Frames:
Resizing Frames may leave small artifact lines at the
previous location.
Frames can be memory-intensive. You may want to increase your
application's
memory partition (in Get Info) if you will using frames a lot.
Miscellaneous:
Text wraps badly in some dialogs and warning boxes.
Running in black and white may cause problems.
The Netscape Icon button is currently nonfunctional.
The Load Images menu item will appear greyed out. Images can
be loaded using
the Images toolbar button functions, or by clicking on
individual images.
