Well, it seems that this would best be done as a protocol handler.

That, of course, opens up the question of how one creates a protocol 
handler under Beta.

And another question for the list at large: does the Beta API have any 
decent support (or any support at all) for URLs that represent the 
creation of sessions (like telnet:)?
