WHHAAAATATTTTTT!!?!??!?!????
The ability to deal with sockets from an applet is probably the single
greatest feature in the darn thing! Removing it like this will force
us all to cough up some silly way around it on those platforms that
wont support it. This will... quite frankly -- 'suck'.
I realize that Java can be used for alot more than things like HotJava
and Netscape. And in such cases, losage of networking is prefectly
reasonable. But PLEASE tell me that the browser community is
interested in supporting a networking level for applets that want to
speak TCP. I mean the browsers HAVE to if they are internet-aware
anyway.
It will be a sad day to see the loss of networking availability to
applets.
